The original ending of VII (which was actually shot) would have Doctor G enlisting the help of the survivors to take down Hoffman. At one point the ending of V would've implied that there had been multiple people inspired by Jigsaw setting up their own independent traps for a while.
They've been on the verge of bringing a cult storyline into the series for a while now.
If the Saw universe was to spin off in a completley insane way what other ways could it have gone besides the future is jigsaw? Saw steampunk? Saw 1980s? Saw B-Grade? Saw Noir? Saw Dark Ages? and by one film I am using the word coherant conservatively. I can sort of see how strategically Saw 7 was the most coherant conclusion they could make with the one film. following the poor reception to season of the witch this did not come about.and lionsgate was wanting to keep it's IP with the saw franchise on ice for a while which was why we only got a hashed together SAW 3D.
Originally they wanted halloween 3 season of the witch to perhaps gravitate the series around an anthology format but still staying in universe. I understand the artist was probablly given a creative prompt like "The theme is legacy, just make it look like legacy okay?" The producers talked about rebooting the franchise like john carpenter's halloween frequently. Following this the entire city would perhaps would be rigged with death traps to enforce worship to the "people's republic of jigsaw." ummm wtf am i right? that's what I get from seeing the poster however. I remember first seeing this and theorizing that originally Saw 3d was meant to be two parts and the series went in a different direction and wrapped up but I interpretted this as somehow saw 8 being set in a dystopian future with an authoritorian dictatorship with a cult of personality formed around John Kramer.
